Weird Stuff I Found This Week

Posted by: Alan Cross | Feb 6 2010 4:00PM

It was another Thursday night, that “special time” when I pretend to watch Grey’s Anatomy with my wife to prove that I can be sensitive to matters of the heart.  It’s all a sham, of course, because the entire time I have my laptop open.  Just as well, because every time McSteamy comes on the screen, I just wanna kick in the TV.  There’d be plasma all over the place.

Turns out that Garrien, my cabinet-making buddy, sent me two videos.  The first is a from a South African hip-hop band called Zef Side.  I’m not sure what to make of this.  Are they serious?

Next is an ancestor of the music video featuring the Ross Sisters.  In this 1944, they sing the glories of potato solid (It was a more innocent time).  But hang in there until about one minute into the clip.  I’m not sure if we should be impressed, creeped out or highly aroused—especially the thing she does with the apple.

It looks like Morissey and the kid from that "McLovin'" movie kidnapped some blond 12 year old. That video is the strangest thing I've seen

The likes of Brittaney Spears should be quivering in their boots when they see this dance/gymnastics routine by the Ross Sisters

Very impressive stuff!!! I think the Zef Side video is quite intelligent. It reminds me of Borat... In my opinion, this video should go viral if it hasn't already. Seriously. This video was made on purpose...I see Vanilla Ice, Lady Gaga...a d*** swinging inside Pink Floyd shorts...OMG!!! I think this is prime material for the Dean Blundell show...!!!

If my wife could do that... I'd never leave the house!

5 Songs You Gotta Hear Today
  1. Jeff Martin

    The World is Calling

Since the Tea Party disbanded in 2005, their former frontman has been working on a solo career, among other things. The lead single from his first and so far only solo studio album, 2006's Exile and the Kingdom, is reportedly an open letter to the Bush administration.

Sounds like The Tea Party (you guessed it!), The Doors at their most worldly psychedelic
  2. Hello Beautiful

    Virginia Symphony

This Whitby band blends punk, rock, and hip hop in a refreshingly unique and engaging way. Soundtrack For Scenario is out now, and keep an ear out for a new album in 2010.

    Sounds like 311, Billy Talent
  3. Think About Life

    Sweet Sixteen

You might think about life while listening to this Montréal band, but you'll probably be too distracted having a good time.

Sounds like SLAVE to the SQUAREwave, The Sounds crossed with a light-hearted MGMT
  4. The Rural Alberta Advantage

    Don't Haunt This Place

Recently signed to Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst's record label, Saddle Creek ... catchy Toronto by way of Alberta indie rock ... incredible harmonies!

Sounds like Ra Ra Riot, Death Cab For Cutie, Hayden
  5. Najuah

    I Don't Wanna Love U

Toronto six-piece fronted by two sisters. Diverse influences, a rock & roll attitude, and some good grooves give them very broad appeal.

Sounds like No Doubt stripped of their ska, some time before Gwen went bananas.
