There are countless metal sub-genres out there. Terms like “blackened folk metal” or “technical jazz-influenced death metal” get thrown around like crazy. Sometimes these descriptions help when trying to describe a band to someone, but other times it’s just plain annoying. Well here’s another that will probably produce both reactions simultaneously: “GaGa metal”.This is because one YouTube user grabbed a bit of attention with his mash-up of Lady GaGa’s “Paparazzi” and Swedish band Meshuggah’s “Bleed”, appropriately titled “Bleed-a-Razzi”. No pitch or time change for this one. They fit perfectly. But what really made me pay attention was his next project. An incredible mix of GaGa’s “Bad Romance” with Polish metal stars Behemoth and their track “Ov Fire and The Void” (the Behemoth video is pretty NSFW).It’s called “Ov Fire and Bad Romance”. Give it at least till the chorus. If that wasn’t enough evidence of GaGa’s metal invasion, there’s also this Facebook group. But like most female pop stars, she’s just following in Madonna’s footsteps. Check out “Ray of Light” mashed-up with “Corporal Jigsore Quandary” from UK legends Carcass.Although these mash-ups are certain to send some metal-heads running for the hills, it must be acknowledged that Queen Madge may have started this whole trend on her own. This video is said to be from a show where she payed tribute to murdered Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. Here’s Madonna riffing on Pantera’s “A New Level” during a performance of “Hung Up”. Yes it’s real. That’s all for now. Detached RE:New Heavy Metal Sub-Genre: GaGa Metal Mar 9 2010 8:58PM Wow...this is the weirdest thing I've seen in a long time. Frankly, I need to stop thinking about this now or my head will explode.
