What do Elvis Costello, Sinead O'Connor and Rage Against the Machine have in common? They've all given the producers of Saturday Night Live fits.

In 1978, Elvis went against orders and played "Radio Radio," a song considered very controversial and somewhat offensive by the owners of NBC. Sinead O'Connor created problems when she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II during her live set.

And in 2003, Rage Against the Machine flew into a rage when producers wouldn't let them hang upside down American flags in a type of protest. Those flags were ripped down by stagehands just 20 seconds before they went started to play. This angered the band so much that bassist Tim Bob shredded one of the flags and threw them at guest host Steve Forbes. You gotta love live TV.

The Ongoing History of New Music debuted in February 1993 on radio station 102.1 The Edge/Toronto. Since then it's...well, it's taken on a life of its own. Consider: More than 500 different one-hour episodes have been produced, making it the longest-running music documentary in Canada and one of the longest in North America. More than 5,000 one-minute daily features have been written and produced. The program is syndicated on virtually every major rock station in Canada. The Ongoing History of New Music show has spun off four books (all written by Alan Cross), which have worldwide sales of over 30,000 copies, not to mention almost 20 different compilation CDs (including four official Ongoing History discs).
