U2 Collectibles

Posted by: Alan Cross | Feb 24 2010 12:00AM

U2 has been around since 1976 so there has been plenty of opportunities for some of their rare releases to turn into hideously expensive collectibles.

There seems to be a new champion, too.  Amongst those who collect U2 stuff, the rarest thing is a 7-inch single of “All I Want Is You.”  It’s on light green vinyl, was manufactured in 1989 and like almost all rare U2 records, it comes from Australia.  They call it a “mispressing”–a record that was made by accident when they were cranking out regular 7-inch singles.

Only three copies are known to exist and late last year, acollector with a huge amount of extra cash paid £10,000 for it on eBay.  That’s more than double its original estimated value.

Ongoing History of New Music LogoThe Ongoing History of New Music debuted in February 1993 on radio station 102.1 The Edge/Toronto. Since then it's...well, it's taken on a life of its own. Consider: More than 500 different one-hour episodes have been produced, making it the longest-running music documentary in Canada and one of the longest in North America. More than 5,000 one-minute daily features have been written and produced. The program is syndicated on virtually every major rock station in Canada. The Ongoing History of New Music show has spun off four books (all written by Alan Cross), which have worldwide sales of over 30,000 copies, not to mention almost 20 different compilation CDs (including four official Ongoing History discs).
