One of the surprise international breakouts from 2009 was Phoenix, the band from Versailles, France, and their Grammy-nominated album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. France isn’t known as much of a rockin’ nation and there really haven’t been that many bands who have been able to translate to other territories.
But Phoenix–who started as the backing band from the French group Air, by the way–has actually been working at this breakthrough for more than a decade ten years. If you like the Wolfgang album, you should know that there are three other CDs.
Their debut was called United (2000), followed by Alphabetical (2004) and It’s Never Been Like That (2006). There was also a concert CD in 2004 called Live! Thirty Days Ago. If you like the sound of Phoenix, there’s more where that came from.
