Back in the 80s and early 90s, the Hacienda in Manchester was one of the most famous nightclubs on the planet. This was the place established by Factory Records and underwritten mostly by the profits generated by New Order.
The place lost millions. It also became a hangout for drug dealers, which really was the thing that closed the place down. It was eventually sold, demolished and replaced by some condos.
However, bass player Peter Hook can’t seem to walk away from this, even after writing a book called How Not to Run a Nightclub. He purchased the space that used to be the actual headquarters of Factory Records and turned it into a nightclub. It opened on January 29. If you’re a diehard, yes, it has a FAC number. In fact, the place is called FAC251.
