Smashing Pumpkins: "Help Wanted"

Posted by: Adam Morrison | Mar 10 2010 3:10PM

Smashing Pumpkins bassist Ginger Pooley has left the band to raise her new baby with her husband, and Billy Corgan is looking for a new bassist via an open audition process. Auditions will also be held for a new keyboardist—Billy wants one who is a fan of—and can play in the prog-rock style of—Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman.

Billy says that while he is heartbroken that Ginger is leaving the group, he really respects her decision to put her family first.

"We were lucky enough to find drummer Mike Byrne through an open audition process," BILLY adds, "so why not open the doors again to anyone who might be interested for the bass or keyboard position. As you can see from our past and present, age, race, or a person's background is not an issue. Everyone is truly welcome to audition."

YO paul I enjoy songs by bands that don't sell out as much as anyone but at the end of the day if they can't make money they won't be around to deliver you your favorite tunes, so pull up a chair in front of the tube and watch the smashing pumpkins base quest if that's what they need to get their music out their. But Really You can't say they don't need the money as an argument not to do a t.v show, cause who knows when a medical emergency might come or if they'll want to donate millions to charities they could use the show to reach people financially, other than themselves, and actually become the change artists sing about. Try thinking about this not just on a one to one band to single fan ratio, who cares about the fans, they come and go, if they want to impact our culture, our economy, our world, get some people employed by setting up a show and throwing the money to NGO's if they couldn't possibley find use for it then that actually is a gravy train I've proposed they step on, not Corporate B.S as you so kindly quoted me!

Any cred the band has left would be destroyed by making a show outta this. They don't need the money. Sorry Jamie.....but that's some corporate whore bulls*** thinking. Save yourself now and start listening to music for the right reasons.

5 Songs You Gotta Hear Today
  1. Pennywise

    One Reason

Pennywise's forthcoming tenth album will be their first without vocalist Jim Lindberg. This track is from their ninth album.

Sounds like Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, Minor Threat
  2. Four Year Strong

It Must Really Suck to Be Four Year Strong Right Now

Catchy pop punk band that's burned through more than half a dozen members in its nine year existence.

Sounds like Polar Bear Club, Rise Against, Sum 41
  3. Riverboat Gamblers

    Victory Lap

From the Texan punk band's appropriately titled 2009 album, Underneath the Owl.

Sounds like Cobra Skulls, The Loved Ones, Dillinger Four
  4. Tip The Van

    Cherry Red

Ska-loving Connecticut rock band with six members—three women, and three guys named Brian.

Sounds like No Doubt, but with more guts.
  5. ICanMakeAMessLikeNobodysBusiness

The World We Know, the band's first album in six years, is part of a three-album set that will all be released by the end of the year.

Sounds like person L, Copeland, Ace Enders & A Million Different People
