Take a Walk on the Wild Side with Sweet Jane and Lou Reed and a legend named Prakash John

Happy 68th Lou Reed!

I've been on Youtube for the last hour scouring for a couple gems to share.

1st, with Metallica last October doing classic Velvet Underground.

The 2nd one is tres cool.   Back to 1974 with a super funky groove that sets up Lou's vocal on Walk on the Wild Side, with thanks in particular to the bassist, good Canadian kid from Bombay India, named Prakash John.  He was in the original 'Bush', from Toronto, with a couple other Canadian legends -  drummer Penti 'Whitey' Glan and guitarist Domenic Troiano.   You can hear Whitey and Prakash John on tons of L.A. sessions from the 70's.

And when you've got the funky bass lines, the phone rings, as Prakash John was recruited in the early 70's by George Clinton to work with Parliament Funkadelic in the studio and on tour.

And he rocked the bass for classic rock artists too, like Alice Cooper and Lou Reed.

John left mainstream rock in 1979, returning to Toronto to found his R&B band, The Lincolns (trivia: apparently they played Gretzky's wedding in '88)

Enjoy Prakash John's performance in the 2nd video below.

And now for somehting else, completely different:

Lou is king. It was great seeing Prakash John. Always considered him one of the most under-rated bass players, he truly is a legend

Jeff Woods: Thanks for this.
