Dilana Rocks Afghanistan

I'm sure you've said it before, 'I need a holiday from my holiday'!  In this case, from my weekend.

It climaxed, so to speak, with  Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton (more on that, especially Jeff Beck with whom I spoke at length, coming later this afternoon on the next blog entry).

The other show stopper this weekend, was the dress rehearsal for  a 'Show Tour' scheduled to rock the Canadian Troops in Afghanistan.

My wife Lori,  a booking agent behind many Canadian concert tours, put this current tour together - in fact after weeks of preparation, she just left yesterday for Afghanistan to put on a series of shows for the troops, with a cast of talented peformers, not the least of whom is pictured above.   Do you recognize her?   She was the most talented finalist Dilana, from Rockstar Supernova (that band that featured Tommy Lee, Gilbey Clarke, Jason Newstead and the winner Lukas Rossi).

Lori figures they might have had a better shot at lasting with Dilana at the helm, and after seeing her live on the weekend, I can't argue. 95 pounds of pure rock and roll glory wrapped in leather.    (Dilana on myspace)

Other performers on the current Show Tour for the troops include:  Rex Goudie (runner up in Canadian Idol, and Juno nominee), Elyse Robineault, from Quebec (a featured performer on that province's Star Academie), plus comedian Nikki Payne, a couple female dancers (no, not the ballet), and house band - quite fittingly - the 'Band of Brothers'.

My contribution to the show was minimal, but apparently effective given the rehearsal show at CFB Trenton - I suggested their finale be a double shot of Queen.  (you can probably guess which one).

Now, so you can have a preview of what the Cdn Troops will be getting later this week - here is (older footage of) Dilana doing Led Zep.

Along with 'safe travels' to the whole tour, special thanks to photographer Drew Deics for the shot of Dilana, and finally, a loving kiss to Lori, enjoy,

Jeff.

And she lost to Rossi? "Where are they now"?... What a tough way to take a break from your weekend. This, and then Beck and Clapton. Too bad, eh?

Jeff Woods: I neglected to mention Friday night was a great gig too, Romney Getty and Craig Smith live, and a blues duo the night before at a house party. It was a real rock and roll week-in-the-life. But now I'm just bragging ;). Seriously, the more live music the happier the weeks always are. That, and a good long walk in the woods every other day. Cheers Johnny.
