Brian Johnson of ACDC speaks out

I'm re-reading ACDC 'Maximum Rock & Roll' (the most authoritative ACDC book to date - says Billboard Australia) and currently putting together the upcoming retrospective on ACDC singer Bon Scott (hear it on the radio Sunday February 21st, marking 30 years the day before since Bon's death).

I never got to meet Bon, but from the stories Angus Young has shared about the fellow Scots-man I would have loved the chance.

Bon, it turns out, in a moment of irony, gave the thumbs up to the singer that would be his replacement.    These days, you'd never know Brian Johnson is going on 63.   He's a helluva nice guy,  fun loving, loves to ride motorbike.  He also has strong thoughts about rock stars like Bono and Bob Geldof.

Have a read and tell us what you think.

Here's a link to the story/interview with Brian - just click HERE.

Cheers,

Jeff.

I agree, I believe how we do anything is how we do everything... so they probably do help whenever they can. And yes, using their celebrity can be a valuable tool... are their actions calling attention or are they... the end result is still good either though. Ultimately, it's the suspicious/selfish part of me which raises the questions and the empathetic part which keeps my selfishness in check.

In their Rock video 'Long Way To the Top' it was filmed in Melbourne on Swanston street 'before it was closed off to allow pedestrian traffic only). One of the accounts from one of the bagpipe players was it was like pulling teeth to get the band out of the bar to shoot the video, and they were completely ripped through the filming. Bon Scott really wanted to learn to play the bag pipes and asked one of them if he could be shown how ... to which the reply was along the lines of 'how long have you got mate? Not sure if he was actually playing them in the video or not. I'd love to find that interview again.

Jeff Woods: Nice. Apparently, big brother George Young assumed Bon could play the bagpipes, having been in a Scotish band, but in fact Bon played drums. That said, he was good at picking things up and apparently learned fairly quickly to play, although it often went off the rails in concert. Cheers Jason.

he's got a point there, when someone does help out and it's trully not for anything in return... broadcasting it takes away (ever so slightly) from the altruism. But history is repleat with good people trying to help others and getting at least kick in the @55 in return..... The message of the world needing to take an active role in helping others is the same message that by helping others they're actually helping themselves too. I guess we are still in our infancy as a species that can't see past our own immediate needs. Not that I'm a saint, maybe the world needs to hit a bottom to wake itself up again... oooffff, wow, good morning Jeff. I'ma gonna go get a coffee now... hopefully lighten up a bit. ;)

Jeff Woods: While those who do great things anonymously are honorable, tough to set the example in silence. I suspect both Bono and Bob Geldof and others who do great things publicly, also do great things privately. At least I hope so. :) Cheers Jon.
