I Want to Go to New York City

Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, Bowie, Dylan,  Beatles, Hendrix, Kiss, Guess Who, Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie and all the rest ..... this weekend on the Legends weekly hour-long show, part 1 of a 2 part series called 'New York Stories'.

It's been a regular destination over the years, media junkets to meet up with REM, Bowie, Page/Plant, Steely Dan ....

I remember really wanting to go ... figured it was the place for me.  The first trip was life-changing.  Figured I would move there.  On my 10th trip last year to meet up with ACDC, I decided it'd remain a 'nice place to visit, as often as possible.

Remember this band from London Ontario?  Our theme song for the upcoming Legends series.   It was later named the greatest Canadian song of all time in a 1996 reader's poll by Chart Magazine.

Enjoy,

Jeff.

Thanks Jeff for giving the Demics their due. Truly a great Canadian punk band and in their prime at the Horsehoe or the Turning Point a terrific live act. I too enjoy going to NYC (how about them Yankees?!!!)

As a born and bred New York girl (I was born in Manhattan), I have never heard this song before!! Having lived in Toronto for more than 20 years I can honestly say that New York City is still the place for me and I wanna go to New York City. I miss the pace every day. Unfortunately, the economic forecast for my profession is gloomy there hence I stay here in T.O. but that said, I am unemployed here as well. La di da. Hopefully, things will get better. I always tell people that New York City has the best and the worst of everything.

Jeff Woods: Thanks Lori, for the note and for reviving the classic Annie Hall line La di da. Made my day.

what a great tune! I few weeks ago I was singing this song and could not for the life of me remember who sang it. Then checking out your blog today and here it is!

Jeff Woods: I've had it stuck in my head for most of the last week!

Greatest Canadian Song of All Time is pushin it a bit dontcha think? I like it though, it definitely has that NY patina to it. Blondie, eh? Too late for my vote but if i had one i would go with Denis. But that's just my 2 cents.

Jeff Woods: Pushin it a bit, true, but it gets me fired up more than most.

Hey Jeff: That was one of my favorite songs from the 80's. The Demics were great along with Teenage Head, the Diodes and the Forgotten Rebels!

Jeff Woods: Loved those first two Teenage Head albums ... Diodes "Tired of Waking up Tired" ... cheers Jim.

That was a great song. Years ago (1993) I actually worked for Iain (bass player). I still remember once telling Iain "hey they just played your song on the radio!" His response... "Yay another quarter of a cent".

Jeff Woods: Thanks Kerry, good one.

I went to New York on business about 10 years ago. My one and only time and I fell in love with the place. My mother told me I was not to walk around alone. I was never good at listening to my mom, so off I went. I explored Central Park, Strawberry Fields, the Dakota. Went in search of NY Mets cap and travelled the streets like a slack jawed tourist! New York City is the hottest place (a little Nina Hagen, just in case you don't feature it!).

Jeff Woods: Cheers ya rebel.
