This is the Indie Track of the Day Giveaway. It's just like it sounds—every day we spotlight a song from an indie band/artist and we let you keep the track to do with whatever you like (within the limits of the law).
The song is part of our podcast, so if you want it (you do), search on iTunes for the ExploreMusic.com podcast, or just scroll down to the bottom of this page and click the links.
Three-piece rock band Born Ruffians moved from Midland, Ontario to Toronto in 2004. They released their debut album, Red, Yellow & Blue, in 2008 on UK label Warp Records.
Announcing the release of their second full length album, the band, who were recently reported as being the most blogged about artists, wrote: "If Born Ruffians’ 2008 debut album Red, Yellow and Blue was the result of a talented and precocious gang of freshmen, their 2010 follow-up, Say It, would be the project they left school to finish — a declaration that they’re smart and ambitious enough to make it on their own, and furthermore, that they’re in it for the long haul."
vocalist/guitarist Luke Lalonde said, "We don’t want to leave little mistakes on, we want to make it sound pretty clean and pop-music friendly. We’re trying to make a hit record but in the most genuine way-- We just want it to sound like us live … but better."
The album was recorded at Metalworks Studios in Toronto and mastered in Brooklyn. It will be released on June 1st via Toronto's Paper Bag Records (Canada) and Warp (worldwide).
The lead single is actually about two different things—drummer Steven Hamelin wanting to be a "soul brother" and Luke wanting to be a "sole brother" (an only child).
