Here’s The Deal: Gaslight Anthem, The Bulgarian Ticket Scam, Courtney Love, Soundgarden

Here’s the Deal with Gaslight Anthem

Our Mike Sullivan had a chance to talk to Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem about their new album which won’t be out until June 15th.  Here’s the scoop on American Slang.

Here’s the Deal with the Bulgarian Concert Ticket Scam

There’s a great story in the business section of the Globe and Mail today about the Bulgarian concert ticket scam.  It details how some hackers figured out a way to scam Ticketmaster, Tickets.com and Major League Baseball.  They scooped up 1.5 million tickets and resold them at a profit.  Anyone who thought they had an equal shot at getting tickets was actually being outraced by a bunch of high-speed servers which were programmed to beat those CAPTCHA images.  (If you’ve ever registered for something or bought something online, you’ve seen those.  CAPTCHAs are those images of distorted letters that are usually captioned with “Type exactly what you see in the box below.”)

In other words, no wonder shows sold out so fast.  Bulgarian hackers!

Here’s the Deal with Courtney’s Comeback

It looks like we are at the beginnings of an old-time grunge resurrection.  Sometime in the next 48 hours, you will hear a new single from Courtney Love and Hole.  (Well, it’s Courtney Love with a band passing as Hole.)  This CD—which is called Nobody’s Daughter—has been in the works for at least five years.  That first single will be “Skinny Little Bitch.”  It will followed by a second single—something called “Samantha”—that was co-written by Billy Corgan.  No release date on the album yet

This is the big question (aside from “is it any good?”) is will anyone care?  If a Courtney falls on her face alone in the woods, does she make a sound?  We’ll see.

Here’s the Deal with A New Soundgarden Release

And if that wasn’t enough, if you’re on Soundgarden’s mailing list, you woke up today to a message that says they’re re-releasing a song called “Hunted Down” on an orange vinyl 7-inch at selected independent record stores, just in time for Record Store Day on April 17.

They also offered a free download of a live version of “Spoonman” from a show in San Diego on November 11, 1996.  It was recorded with an eye to putting out a live album one day, but they broke up before they could get around to it.

Expect the Soundgarden machine to really start ramping up in the coming weeks.  It might be worth signing up for more mailing list info.

ExploreMusic Playlist: The songs featured on the radio show today were:

“What Is Love?” by Never Shout Never
“Spoonman” (Live) by Soundgarden
“We Are The Men You’ll Grow To Love Soon” by Let’s Wrestle
“Fight” by Crash Karma

I can't wait for the triumphant return of Kim Thayil and Soundgarden. I've been waiting for this news for over a decade. It's a grunge renaissance with STP and Alice in Chains back on the scene as well. What's next?

So pumped for new Gaslight. Sink or Swim and '59 Sound were awesome. I'm sure if Courtney falls alone in the woods she'll make a lot of sounds for everyone to hear and laugh.
